Award-winning of our school in a student competition of short film making

We are happy to announce you the award-winning of our school in the Student Competition of short film making on the topic “The Holocaust and the Greek Jews”, for the school year 2023-2024. The film is entitled «Wahrheit macht frei» (The truth sets free). In the competition participated the B’ class students Kleftogiannis Niκolaos, Kouka Niki, Leka Sofia. Friendly participation in the song, the students Kantartzi Athina and Nonota Sofia.

The thematic field of the competition was the Jews’ Holocaust in WWII, with a specific reference to the Greek Jews. Through their work the students expressed in an experiential way their thoughts and feelings on the topic and familiarized with the scientific and historic research of the past, by studying primary and secondary historic sources. Among others was used the valuable testimony of a survivor from the ERT archive (with the necessary copyright license) and material from the Jewish Museum of Greece.

We thank our school teacher Ms. Tsapara Xanthi for the students’ guidance and the work editing, the teacher Mrs. Diakonou Maria for offering costumes and helping with the set as well as the teacher Mr. Sotirios Kollias for the photographic material and the inspiration based on a text from his personal archive.

The award-winners will participate in a special educational programme of the Jewish Museum of Greece, which also includes an educational visit in the “National Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau” in Poland.

The student music “Evaggeliki School Festival” is celebrating this year its 20 years and it is expecting you on an unforgettable date!

The festival will take place on Saturday 20 April 2024, in the yard of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna, from 18:00.

Evaggeliki School Festival is co-organised by the students of the 15-member Student Council, the Association of Parents and Custodians and the Alumni Association of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna.

B’ class school trip in London, within the framework of the interdisciplinary project entitled “Victorian England: social hierarchy, everyday life, hygiene and health”, and participation in educational workshop in the National Archives of the United Kingdom

From Wednesday 13 March 2024 until Sunday 17 March 2024, a group of 67 students and 5 teachers of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna visited London, the capital of the United Kingdom.

The educational visit was of historic and cultural content and focused on Victorian England. More precisely, it was realized within the framework of the interdisciplinary project entitled “Victorian England: social hierarchy, everyday life, hygiene and health”, which takes place in all B’ class groups during the second semester of the school year 2023-2024.

First of all, the participants were invited and visited the National Archives of the United Kingdom, where they took part in a workshop of study of authentic 19th century documents on the topic of “Whitechapel in the 19th century”. There they had the chance to get to know how the National Archives of the U.K. work, to be trained by their Education Department and become familiar with ways in which the British researchers study History through authentic sources. Then, the educational visit was complemented by visits in monuments of historical and cultural interest in the British capital.

Results of the 3rd Panhellenic Mathematics Competition of Logical and Computational Thinking “Alan Turing”

The results of the preliminary stage of the 3rd Panhellenic Mathematics Competition of Logical and Computational Thinking “Alan Turing” have been announced.

Our school was in the 2nd and the 3rd place in the Prefecture of Attica.

On a Panhellenic level, where 496 teams participated in the High School category, two teams of our school made it to the final ten, taking the 6th and the 9th place.

Educational visit in an Orthodox Church

Within the framework of the Religious Education subject, two groups of the A class visited the Church of Taxiarches in Moschato, in order to be acquainted with the architecture and the religious wall painting of an Orthodox Church in an experiential way.

After the guided tour by the Religious Education teacher of our school Mr. Sotirios Kollias, the priest in charge of the church, father Christodoulos Bithas, talked to our students about the history of Taxiarches Church, the establishment of the Church institution and showed them the mass vessels, explaining their use. Then a constructive discussion followed during which the priest answered all the students’ questions, focusing mainly on Christ’s love. After the end of the visit, the hospitable people of the church offered a treat to our students.

The accompanying teachers were Sotirios Kollias, Evangelia Karimali and Sotirios Tsalamandris. We deeply thank both the priest and the people working in the church for the love and the hospitality they showed to our students.

Record: three of our teams in the finals of the Directorate of D’ Athens

In the School Championship of Greece and Cyprus, after the boys’ handball team reached the finals, the girls’ basketball team and the girls’ volleyball team also reached them. So, our School is represented for the first time by three teams in the Directorate of D’ Athens finals, while all our teams did well with two more participations in the semi-finals.

In the final game of our girls’ volleyball team against the team of the Vocational High School of Agios Dimitrios, our team won and this made them the winners in the Directorate of D’ Athens. Now they continue playing on the level of Attica prefecture.

Realization of Activities with the Ordrup Gymnasium from Denmark

On Thursday 29 February 2024, from 08:10 until 14:05, visited our school a group of 32 students (17 boys and 15 girls) of B and C class and 2 teachers of History and Social Sciences from Ordrup Gymnasium, Denmark.

The aim of this visit was their acquaintance with the Greek education system, the attendance of English Language and Citizenship lessons, the use of English as a common language of communication, as well as the discussion and realization of common activities for the acquaintance of the students and the exchange of opinions regarding the ways for the youth to deal with the current social issues and their approach of European Union’s role. Furthermore, the long-term aim was the acquaintance of the two schools and the common realization of activities in the framework of future Erasmus+ projects.

Our school reception class was A2 and the teachers in charge of the preparation and realization of the activities were Eirini Arnaouti (English Teacher) and Matthaios Giannaras (Economy and Political Science Teacher).

Erasmus+ ΚA120 Accreditation awarded to our school

On February 2024 was informed Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna by the Institute of State Scholarships (Hellenic National Agency) that the school is among the fifty-three (53) institutions that were awarded the accreditation within the framework of the European Call for Application Submission for the year 2023 aiming at the realization of Erasmus+ projects until 31.12.2027. This application had to do with the quality control of the action plan of the school education institutions.

Afterwards, was submitted by our school an Erasmus+ KA121 funding application for the realisation of activities within the accreditation framework during the school year 2024-2025 and the results are to be announced until the end of the current school year.

Our school English teacher Dr. Eirini Arnaouti is in charge of the applications’ submission and the implementation of the action plan, while the Erasmus+ school team includes eight (08) more teachers, who will collaborate with the school Administration, all the other school teachers and the school students for the implementation of the mobilities in European countries and the dissemination of the project results.

Visit in the Hellenic Parliament

On Thursday 15 February the B’ class students that participate in the Journalism Action visited the Hellenic Parliament, where they had the chance to get a glimpse of the discussion and vοting of bills. More specifically, they sat in the balcony of the plenary room and attended part of the procedure of the parliamentary control.  In this procedure, a Parliament member of the opposition party posed a question to the Minister in charge regarding an issue that concerned the area where this Parliament member is elected and then the Minister answered the question. The students found the process very interesting and experienced the way in which decisions are made during the parliamentary procedure.

Then they were guided in “Eleftherios Venizelos” room, where it is hosted the exhibition entitled “Seeing Liberty: In the Hellenic Parliament two centuries later”. They saw important artworks and exhibits form the Revolution period and were informed about the history of the Parliament building. The guided tour was realized by Ms. Eleni Laskari, a member of the academic staff of the Foundation of the Hellenic Parliament, whom we thank very much.

The students were accompanied by the teachers in charge of the Journalism Action: Katerina Tsachtsarli and Dimitrios Kominos.

Panhellenic school championship of Greece and Cyprus: New wins and tickets to the finals

with wins. After the ticket to the big finals of the Directorate D’ Athens by the boys’ handball team, its participation in the finals was ensured by the girls’ basketball team as well, while all the teams are on their way to the finals.

Our new results more analytically:

On Monday 19 February 2024, the girls’ volleyball team beat the 2nd High School of Nea Smyrni team with 2-0. Their next game is against the 2nd High School of Argyroupoli on Thursday 22-02-2024 at 08:30.

On Monday 19-02-2024, the girls’ basketball team played in the semi-finals against the High School of Moschato team and they won with a 43-41, getting the ticket for the finals of Friday 23-02-2024 at 09:00, where they will play against the winner of the game 2nd High School of Palaio Faliro vs. Leonin School.

The games continue on Tuesday 20 February 2024 when the boys’ volleyball team will play against the Leonin School team in the quarterfinals and on Wednesday 21 February 2024 at 08:30, the boys’ basketball team will play against the 5th High School of Nea Smyrni team in the semi-finals.
