The origins of the Evangeliki School of Smyrna date back to 1717, when efforts began to revive Greek education in the city. Its formal foundation took place on 22 June 1733, marking the beginning of a long and distinguished educational tradition.

In the years that followed, the School developed into one of the most important educational and intellectual institutions of Hellenism in Asia Minor. It became widely known for its high academic standards, its contribution to both classical and scientific education, and its rich library and scholarly collections.

The destruction of Smyrna in 1922 brought the School’s historic presence in its birthplace to an abrupt end. Nevertheless, its educational tradition, values, and spirit endured and were carried forward in Greece.

In 1934, the School was officially re-established in Nea Smyrni, Athens, continuing its historic mission within the Greek educational system. In 1971, it was officially recognised as a Model School, in acknowledgement of its longstanding contribution to education and academic excellence.

Today, the Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna continues to serve as a distinguished public school in Greece, combining respect for its historic heritage with a strong commitment to excellence, innovation, and the cultivation of knowledge and values.
