In the framework of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna’s action “Let’s go to the theatre!”, on Saturday 4 November 2023, we attended in Ark Theatre an excellent play entitled “The resistible rise of Arturo Ui”. Few plays have left their mark in the way “The resistible rise of Arturo Ui” has. Written in 1941, the play has been characterized by Bertolt Brecht himself as a “historic hoax”. The play is transformed in the hands of the director Aris Biniaris and depicts in a unique allegorical way the rise of the demagogic figure Arturo Ui, who exploits fear, manipulation and corruption to rise in power. Ark Theatre looked like a dark, ghostly catwalk, on which the play characters represent archetypal characters of our society. In the role of Arturo Ui was Giorgos Chrysostomou that interprets in a unique way this atrocious gangster of the 1930s.
The participation of the B and C class students was bigger than any other time.
