The aim of the teleconferencing realized by the mathematician Ms. Argyri Panagiota on Monday 30 March (12.00-14.00) in the Online Meeting Room of Scientix (http://www.scientix.eu/online-meeting-room) was first the meeting of Α1, Α3 and Β2 class students of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna with the ?Europeana? European digital platform of cultural heritage (https://www.europeana.eu/en) and mainly the exploitation of the digital material in the subject of geometry. It was also an honour for us the participation of Ms. Lymperopoulou Eleni, Mathematics Educational Co-ordinator of the D? Athens area.
Europeana (https://www.europeana.eu/en/collections) offers access to about 57 million digitalized objects from more than 3500 European libraries, museums, archives and galleries. It is a huge database offering an enormous range of mass media products, on a variety of topics and languages as well as objects of image, sound, texts, videos, 3D content on art, architecture, maps, films, natural history, fashion and many more topics in more than 37 languages. A big part of the content ? more than 20 million objects ? have a Common Creatives licence and can be reused in various research and teaching projects.
The mission of Europeana is to transform the world with the help of culture, to unlock the cultural heritage treasures and offer them online, so that people can use them for entertaining, professional and educational purposes.
The Europeana DSI-4 project (http://fcl.eun.org/europeana-dsi4), which is realized and supported by the European Schoolnet (www.eun.org ), aims at encouraging educators to share their experience. From the present innovative teaching approach of geometry through the material culture of the digital cultural heritage, we have detected the active participation of the Α1 , Α3 and Β2 class students of our school, which is a fact that motivates us to keep supporting their learning. The results of the students? works from the teleconferencing include the research of digital content of material cultural heritage objects, whose geometrical properties are analyzed in the space and plane, and the exploration of correlations with basic theorems of geometry for the understanding of Europe?s cultural heritage. The improvement of the 21st century skills of our students is a basic priority, since the students become creators and solvers of geometry and algebra problems on digital culture objects, they express their creativity, make use of their innovative and critical thinking, as well as of their ability to process and exploit information, and thus of their skill to learn independently.
Publication of the material in the digital community, in the Greek language:
https://eclass.sch.gr/courses/EL526204/
The material will be enriched during the whole period of distance teaching, as well as after the re-opening of the schools.
This action is organized by Ms. Argyri Panagiota in the framework of the international initiative, led by Scientix «2020 STEM Discovery Campaign», on the topic of ?Innovative trends in education? (http://www.scientix.eu/events/campaigns/sdc20).
