On Sunday 20 October 2024, our school teachers Dr. Eirini Arnaouti (English teacher) and Dr. Sotirios Kollias (Religious Education teacher), in charge of the Club of Cinematic Education, participated with a presentation in the 10th International Conference for the Promotion of Educational Innovation, which was organized by the Academic Committee for the Promotion of Educational Innovation (www.eepek.gr), in collaboration with the University of Thessaly, the N.K.U.A., the University of Macedonia, the University of Peloponnese, the Aegean University, the Democritus University of Thrace and the Hellenic Mediterranean University, where they made the presentation entitled “THE FALLING STONES: A student film about the train accident in Tempi”. The presentation is accessible online and you can see it here.
The teachers presented the function of the Club and the process of film shooting for the creation of a student short film. The realization of a Club of Cinematic Education covers the need for the development of the students’ critical thinking, creativity and the connection of the school with the real world, which are all basic objectives of the new National Curriculum as well as main objectives of the Clubs of the Model and Experimental Schools. In this way, the creation of audiovisual material is a powerful tool for the processing and depiction of social issues as well as for raising the awareness of the youth and the wide public.
The presented film won the 2nd prize in the category “High School-Fiction Film” in the 14th International Student Short Film Competition “Did you study…Cinema??” 2023-2024 and the results of two more competitions are being expected.
