The course attended by three teachers from our school in Berlin, from 7 to 12 July, was of great interest. In particular, teachers Georgia Katsouli, Dimitrios Kominos and Aikaterini Tsachtsarli were particularly satisfied with the seminar “From Global Priorities to School Projects: Focus on Sustainability and Citizenship Education”, which had as its main objective to equip European teachers with the knowledge required to integrate the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals into effective learning tools, thus creating the conditions for the creation of thoughtful and active European citizens. In addition to Greek teachers, teachers from Spain, Portugal and Hungary participated in the seminar.

During the training, teachers had the opportunity to delve into the concept of global citizenship and explore innovative ways to cultivate a sense of global responsibility among students. As part of the seminar, they visited the Humboldt Forum and Futurium museums, where they studied exhibits related to the ethnological and anthropological history of peoples as well as the problems faced by modern societies, such as the need to strengthen democratic processes, the ethical dilemmas arising from the use of artificial intelligence and sustainable environmental development. On these visits, they were then asked to devise ways to integrate these issues into the educational process.

At the end of the training, the teachers developed a broad lesson plan with the main feature of strengthening the active citizenship of students and the implementation of the sustainable development goals as defined by the UN.

On the occasion of their visit to the German capital, the teachers had the opportunity to visit emblematic historical sights, such as the German parliament building and the Berlin Wall, as well as museums such as the one hosting the Greco-Roman collection (Altes Museum), the Egyptian (Neues Museum), the Panorama of the Pergamon Museum and the Jewish Museum of Berlin.
