Our students had the opportunity to experience a highly constructive and enriching event by participating in the 21st Model United Nations Conference, held at Anatolia College in Thessaloniki from February 13 to 15.

More than 500 students from public and private schools in Greece and abroad took part in the conference. The participating first-grade Lyceum students were: Danae Arzimanoglou (A1), Natali Georgiadi (A1), Chrysoula Dimitriadou (A1), Anastasia Maria Anagnostoudi (A1), Ioanna Milia (A2), Elena Kaparakou (A2), Nikolaos Kretsis (A2), Spyros Karachalios (A2), Danae Koti (A2), Sotiris Braimis (A3), Lydia Papasakellariou (A3), Lydia Moraiti (A3), Charalampos Poutakidis (A3), Konstantinos Tsapatsaris (A4), and Lina Fotiadou (A4).

All students demonstrated excellent performance in their respective committees. In particular, Nikolaos Kretsis stood out for the questions he raised and for his overall presence as a “judge” at the “International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda” (ICTR).

Among other topics, the simulated UN committee sessions addressed issues such as ensuring equal access to education for populations displaced due to armed conflicts; reforming global governance to address Artificial Intelligence-based technologies during times of conflict; protecting cultural heritage from climate change and urban expansion; and promoting agriculture in developing countries amid the increasing use of genetically modified crops.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Head of Anatolia MUN, Mr. Pieter Derluyn, as well as to all those who contributed to the successful organization of this outstanding conference.

The students were accompanied by the coordinator of our school’s MUN Club, philologist Dimitrios Kominos, and philologist and Deputy Principal Aikaterini Tsachtsarli.
