On Saturday, 13 December, the local qualifying round of the EOES (European Olympiad of Experimental Science) competition was held at the Science Laboratory Centre (E.K.F.E.) of Nea Smyrni (Coordinator: Athanasios Gkourbis). The EOES competition, organized by PAN.E.K.F.E., is distinctive as it combines the following characteristics:

  • Laboratory-based: Students are assessed on conducting experimental procedures and analyzing experimental data in order to draw conclusions.
  • Interdisciplinary: A three-hour competition during which students are tested experimentally in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Collaborative: Unlike other written competitions, each school participates with a three-member student team, requiring close cooperation to achieve success.

Three schools participated in the local competition, and our Lyceum ranked first among them.

Our team consisted of the students Konstantinos Evangelidis, Marianna Krani-Bakopoulou, Eleni Papadopoulou, and Melina Poulou. Student preparation was undertaken by our school teachers: Katerina Dakou (Biology), Georgios Katsinis and Margarita Toulatou (Physics), and Chrysi Angelidou and Christodoulos Makedonas (Chemistry). Members of last year’s EOES team, Konstantinos Giannoulas and Katerina Liagka, also contributed to the preparation by sharing their experience.

We wish our High School students progress and the best possible representation of the Evangeliki School of Smyrna in the second phase of the competition!

The Head of the Science Laboratory Centre (E.K.F.E.) of Nea Smyrni, Mr A. Gkourbis, presents the awards to our students in the presence of our Principal, Ms A. Laskaridou, and members of our teaching staff.
