Our school’s participation in the 4th MUN Conference, organized by the Anavryta Model Senior High School on Saturday and Sunday, 22 and 23 November, was exceptionally successful. Specifically, Skarvelis Ioannis (B3) was distinguished as Best Delegate in the Disarmament and International Security Committee; Variadaki Elisavet (B1) was distinguished as Best Delegate in the Special Political and Decolonization Committee, and Kretsis Nikolaos (A2) received an Honourable Mention for his participation in the Disarmament and International Security Committee.
Outstanding performances were also delivered by our other participating students:
Panigyraki Kyriaki (B2), Papazoglou Eleni (B3), Georgiadi Natalia (A1), Arzimanoglou Danai (A1), Milia Ioanna (A2), Karaoglani Despoina (A2), Karantziki Kalliopi (A2), Zindrou Eleni (A2), Kaparakou Elena (A2), Braimis Sotirios (A3), Fotiadou Evangelia (A4).
The MUN (Model United Nations) conference, in which more than 20 schools took part, is a simulation of the sessions of the institutional bodies of the United Nations (UN). The students represented specific UN member states, formed committees, and were then called upon to negotiate—drawing on arguments from current global affairs—and reach common resolutions on pressing issues facing humanity today, such as: reducing human rights’ violations during conflict, combating corruption and strengthening judicial integrity, ensuring the right to effective legal protection for victims of domestic violence and abuse, addressing discrimination and promoting workplace safety, safeguarding women’s rights in countries with authoritarian regimes, and more.
We extend our warmest thanks to the host teachers and students of the Anavryta Model Senior High School, and especially to the coordinating teacher, Mrs. Karagiannidou Evangelia, for the impeccable organization and hospitality.
The Coordinator of the MUN Club and the student conference team
Dimitrios Kominos
