On Thursday, December 19, 2024, an educational visit of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna took place at the facilities of the National Observatory of Athens (N.O.A.) in Penteli.
Specifically, students of the 1st and 2nd grades of high school (classes A2 and B2) participated in the interactive educational program “About Winds and Waters” (https://www.meteo.gr/perianemon.cfm), during which they became acquainted with the fascinating world of Meteorology. To achieve this goal, the students took part in group activities including:
a) experimental activities that simulate meteorological phenomena (e.g., creating a cloud in a plastic bottle, forming a cold front in an experimental tank),
b) virtual workshops (formation of a thunderstorm cloud),
c) quiz games using modern digital educational tools, with prizes awarded.
Moreover, through this program, students were able to understand and effectively connect the theory they have been or will be taught in Physics (e.g., Coulomb’s Law, Adiabatic expansion) with the meteorological phenomena occurring around them.
In conclusion, we would like to thank the students for their prompt participation and for the exemplary behavior they demonstrated throughout the activity. We also extend our sincere thanks to the teachers Mr. Ioannis Vamvakas (Physicist), Mr. Georgios Katsinis (Physicist), and Mr. Christodoulos Makedonas (Chemist), who contributed to the successful completion of the program.
