The interschool collaboration action is being implemented for the third consecutive school year, with the teacher in charge being Dr. Panagiota Argyri, Mathematician and Vice-Principal of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna.
The action has as its main purpose the strengthening of the learning process through interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on Mathematics as a tool for understanding and interpreting local culture, history and geography.
At the same time, it promotes:
- the interdisciplinary connection of knowledge,
- the active participation of students,
- the assumption of responsibility,
- the cultivation of a collaborative spirit,
- the development of digital skills,
- as well as the strengthening of self-reflection and self-assessment in the learning process.
On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, students from the participating schools presented the interdisciplinary projects implemented during the 2024-25 school year.
The students Vasiliou Eirini, Travlou Magdalini, Tsavala Panagiota and Giannoulas Konstantinos, Papadopoulos Christos, Prapas Stamatis of the 2nd grade of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna presented the project on the topic: ‘Graph Theory as a tool for calculating “short paths” in my school’, with the aim of investigating how Graph Theory is applied in real situations, such as finding the shortest route between points on a map (e.g. school-home route, transportation network management, corridors around the school building, etc.).
The use of Mathematics as a tool for interpreting the real-world enhanced creativity, critical thinking and the cultivation of 21st century skills, while the use of Graph Theory in everyday school life was a typical example of innovation in practice.
The presentations of all students from the collaborating schools highlighted the essence of the learning experience: knowledge acquired through research, collaboration and connection with real life. The successful completion of the interschool action leaves positive impressions, but also fertile ground for future expansions and new creative educational initiatives.
