Job shadowing in Segovia (Spain), in the framework of Erasmus+, in February 2025

Three teachers from our school had the opportunity to experience a particularly creative and constructive experience within the framework of the Erasmus+ KA121 program. Specifically, philologists Georgia Katsouli, Dimitrios Kominos and Aikaterini Tsachtsarli visited the IES Andrés Laguna in Segovia, Spain, from February 24 to 28 and attended the lessons of their Spanish colleagues in middle and high school classes.

The observations concerned a wide range of subjects, mainly humanities and specifically Philosophy and Ethics, Classical Culture, History, English and French Language, Literature, Music, as well as activities such as a podcast creation, student presentations and activities that combined recycling and art. As part of the literature lesson, concerning the work of the Spanish poet Antonio Machado, they participated in an educational walk in the historic center of Segovia and visited places of particular cultural interest as well as the house where the poet lived.

During these five days, the Greek teachers had the opportunity to get to know the Spanish education system and observe creative and innovative teaching methods that undoubtedly inspired them and gave them ideas to enrich the way they teach (regarding the creative use of technology in the classroom, the experiential approach of educational subjects and the relationships between teachers and students).

They had the pleasure to meet and collaborate with their colleagues from the Spanish school, exchange ideas and opinions on the teaching methods that each one applies in the classroom, as well as discuss the characteristics of the education systems of the two countries. Finally, they were particularly pleased to meet the students from the school of Segovia, who were communicative and willing to give their best and help them develop a comprehensive view of the classroom atmosphere and the way in which the lesson is conducted. On the occasion of this trip, they visited museums and sites of particular historical and cultural heritage in both Segovia and Madrid.

In summary, it was a highly constructive experience that gave the teachers the opportunity to understand the value of diversity, democracy and cooperation among European peoples. They got to know a different education system, gained useful information and met lovely teachers and students.
