Educational programme “Mathematical +answers”
On Friday 29 November 2024 a group of students from the B’ Class Sciences Orientation and from the C’ Class Informatics and Economics Orientation in Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna had the chance to visit the Library of the School of Sciences in the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens.
The students were received by the Professor Emerita Leoni Evangelatou-Dalla, who is also the academic responsible for the library and then followed a tour in the Solids, Archives, Books, Female Mathematicians, Ore Crystals, the Gömböc Solid, K. Karatheodori, the Platonean and Archimedean Solids.
In the framework of the educational programme “Mathematical +answers” the topic the students studied was “Applications of the Theory of Graphs” with the aim to:
– gain recognition of the value and the role of Mathematics in real situations, since through the activities they could understand the width of applications of the theory of graphs and the connection with other Sciences (Biology, Engineering etc.).
– develop their algorithmic thought through the investigation of strategic problem solving.
– be given motivation for the search of career perspectives in the field of Mathematics.
The Professor of the Department of Mathematics in the NKUA and President of the Academic Supervisory Council of our School Mr. Ioannis Emmanouil saluted our visit and participated in the tour.
The teacher in charge of the educational visit was the Vice-Principal of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna, Dr. Panagiota Argyri.
