Presentation in the 15th “Conference on Informatics in Education CIE2023”

On Friday 3 November 2023 our school teachers Panagiota-Ismini Matthe (MSC, IT teacher) and Dr. Chrysi Angelidou (Chemistry teacher) made a presentation in the 15th “Conference on Informatics in Education CIE2023”, organized by the Informatics Department of the University of Piraeus and the Informatics Department of the Ionio University (seat of the works of the CIE2023) in collaboration with the Greek Computer Society.

The presentation entitled “Suggestion for an Interdisciplinary Collaboration between Chemistry and IT according to the New National Curricula” presented  and analysed the interdisciplinary collaboration of Chemistry and IT teachers within the framework of the 7th Student Competition 2022-2023 “The exhibits through the eyes of the students” on the topic: “The preparation of a medicine in the time of a pandemic”. This collaboration took place in Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna during the school year 2022-2023 and was realized by the teachers Panagiota-Ismini Matthe (MSc, IT teacher), Dr. Chrysi Angelidou (Chemistry teacher), Dr. Christodoulos Makedonas (Chemistry teacher) and High School students of A’ and B’ class. The participation in the competition was awarded the 1st prize.

The conference plenary speech was held by our school alumnus Dr. Emmanouil Zampetakis, Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department of Yale University, USA. The plenary speech topic was entitled “A Brief Introduction to Modern Machine Learning Methods and Challenges”.

Brief CV of Dr. Em. Zampetakis:

Emmanouil Zampetakis studied in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering in Metsoveion Technological University in Athens, Greece. Then he did his PhD in MIT, USA, and continued his post-doctoral research in Berkeley University, USA. Today he works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science in Yale University, USA. He has published 40 articles in international scientific journals.
