On February 2024 was informed Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna by the Institute of State Scholarships (Hellenic National Agency) that the school is among the fifty-three (53) institutions that were awarded the accreditation within the framework of the European Call for Application Submission for the year 2023 aiming at the realization of Erasmus+ projects until 31.12.2027. This application had to do with the quality control of the action plan of the school education institutions.

Afterwards, was submitted by our school an Erasmus+ KA121 funding application for the realisation of activities within the accreditation framework during the school year 2024-2025 and the results are to be announced until the end of the current school year.

Our school English teacher Dr. Eirini Arnaouti is in charge of the applications’ submission and the implementation of the action plan, while the Erasmus+ school team includes eight (08) more teachers, who will collaborate with the school Administration, all the other school teachers and the school students for the implementation of the mobilities in European countries and the dissemination of the project results.

The History Museum of Athens University has got from today a new exhibit. It is the exhibit that was designed and realized by a team of our students and for which they were awarded a prize last year in the National Kapodistrian University of Athens competition “The Museum exhibits through the students’ eyes”.

The central theme of the exhibit is “the production of a medicine in the times of a pandemic and refers to the discovery of artemisinin that helps combating   malaria. The exhibit includes: (a) a tour in a virtual museum and a video entitled “artemisinin in ancient Rome”, (b) an electronic game, (c) a window with a 3D print of the chemical molecule of artemisinin and the museum exhibits that inspired our students, (d) a poster as well as relevant QR codes with further information.

We thank the person in charge of the Museum Ms. Tsitou for her help in the presentation of our exhibit.

The week has reached its end with one more win for the school teams of Evangeliki High School. More precisely, the boys’ volleyball team beat the 5^th High School of Glyfada team with a score 2-0 (25-6 and 25-9) and it is then facing in the next game Leonin School. The game will be held on Tuesday 20 February 2024. Congratulations to our students!!!

In the 1^st place of the category “Best Paralympic Videos of Secondary & High Schools”, along with Anavryta Model Secondary School, was awarded a prize to our school, on Thursday 8 February 2024, in the award ceremony for the schools of primary and secondary education that participated in the Paralympic festival “Par-OLYMPIA” and took part in the competition “School Sports and Inclusion”.  More than 100 schools from the whole Greece participated in the Festival of Paralympic Sports that took place on the 3^rd October 2023 in the framework of the European programme Par-OLYMPIA, and then participated in the competitions of Paralympic Video, Paralympic Painting/Poster and Paralympic Knowledge.

The award ceremony was held in the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, with the collaboration of the Hellenic Paralympic Committee, in the presence of students from the award-winning schools from all over Greece.

Our school won an award for the video “We wore your shoes” (https://drive.google.com/file/d/12hea8MzonBxTkWjFzB-ew2WwH4MlTq8y/view?usp=drive_web ), showing in practice that concepts like respect in diversity and human rights, knowledge acquisition and empathy for disabled people and sports are high in our education priorities. We achieved that through the creation of a video (with 3-minute duration) on the topic of the teaching of Paralympic sports in 4 teaching sessions, in the subject of Physical Education, in the last school year. The video editing was done by the B’ class student Georgios Tsolakis and we warmly thank him for his creation.

Congratulations to our school EOES team, who, in the second stage of the Panhellenic competition, held on 27-28/1, got the 1st place in Physics and the 6^th place in total. Our team consisted of B’ class students Dimitrios Dalamagkas, Dimitra Kokkali and Despoina Partheniou.

EOES (European Olympiad of Experimental Science) is organized by the Panhellenic Laboratory Centres of Natural Sciences and it is special because it is laboratory-based, interdisciplinary (biology, physics, chemistry) and collaborative. In contrast to other written competitions, every school participates with a 3-member team of students. Students, in order to achieve their goal, have to collaborate.

In the second stage participated 36 schools from the whole country, who were distinguished on the local level of the competition.

We wish all the best to the 2 first schools that will represent our country in the final stage of the competition!

On Saturday 9/12/2023 was held in Nea Smyrni Laboratory Centre of Natural Sciences  (person in charge: Athanasios Gkourbis) the local preliminary stage of the EOES (European Olympiad of Experimental Science). EOES, organized by the Panhellenic Laboratory Centres of Natural Sciences, is special because it combines the following characteristics:

• It is laboratory-based. Students are tested in the conduct of experiments and the analysis of experimental data in order to draw conclusions.
• It is interdisciplinary. It is a 3-hour competition, during which students are tested in their laboratorial skills in physics, chemistry and biology.
• It is collaborative. In contrast to other written competitions, every school participates with a 3-member student team. Students ought to collaborate in order to achieve their goal.

In the local stage participated 4 schools and our High School took the first place.

Our school team consisted of Dimitrios Dalamagkas, Dimitra Kokkali, Despoina Partheniou and Maria Konstantinidi. The students’ preparation was realized by our school teachers Sevasti Vamvakopoulou and Gerasimos Theodoridis (Biology), Maria Diakonou and Margarita Toulatou (Physics), Chrysi Angelidou and Christodoulos Makedonas (Chemistry).

We wish the best to our school students and we hope for the best possible representation of our school in the 2^nd stage of the competition!

On Saturday 11.11.2023 our A class student Evangelos Nektarios Athanasiou was awarded the 2nd prize in the 11^th Panhellenic Secondary School Physics Competition by the Greek Physicists’ Society.
