On Saturday 9/12/2017, the local preliminary stage of EUSO competition (European Olympiad of Natural Sciences) was held in the National Centre of Natural Sciences in Alimos, Athens, Greece.
The EUSO competition is unique given that it combines the following characteristics:
- It is laboratorial. Students are examined in the conduct of experimental processes and the analysis of their experimental data for the deduction of conclusions.
- It is inter-scientific. It is a three-hour competition during which students are examined in physics, chemistry and biology.
- It is collaborative. In contrast to other competitions, every school participates with a 3-member team.
Students need to collaborate in order to reach their goal. 7 schools participated in the local competition of Nea Smyrni municipality and our school won the first place.
Our school team consisted of the students Christos Konidas, Chrysoula Panigyraki, Persefoni Polaki and Petros Panigyrakis (a substitute member). These students belonged to and were selected from a larger group of students who got prepared for the competition.
Our school students did their practice under the guidance of our school teachers Dr. Maria Diakonou (Physics), Mr. Gerasimos Theodoridis (Biology), Dr. Chrysa Aggelidou and Dr. Christodoulos Makedonas (Chemistry).
