Distinction of our school in the local EUSO competition

On Saturday 9/12/2017, the local preliminary stage of EUSO competition (European Olympiad of Natural Sciences) was held in the National Centre of Natural Sciences in Alimos, Athens, Greece.

The EUSO competition is unique given that it combines the following characteristics:

  • It is laboratorial. Students are examined in the conduct of experimental processes and the analysis of their experimental data for the deduction of conclusions.
  • It is inter-scientific. It is a three-hour competition during which students are examined in physics, chemistry and biology.
  • It is collaborative. In contrast to other competitions, every school participates with a 3-member team.

Students need to collaborate in order to reach their goal. 7 schools participated in the local competition of Nea Smyrni municipality and our school won the first place.

Our school team consisted of the students Christos Konidas, Chrysoula Panigyraki, Persefoni Polaki and Petros Panigyrakis (a substitute member). These students belonged to and were selected from a larger group of students who got prepared for the competition.

Our school students did their practice under the guidance of our school teachers Dr. Maria Diakonou (Physics), Mr. Gerasimos Theodoridis (Biology), Dr. Chrysa Aggelidou and Dr. Christodoulos Makedonas (Chemistry).

We wish good luck to our school students and the best possible representation of Evangeliki Model High School of Smyrna in the Panhellenic competition!

Distinction of a student in a European Competition

The student of the ?European paths in the knowledge of sciences? Club of the Model High School of the Evangeliki School of Smyrna Marianna-Fanouria Mitsioni won in the competition organized by the Green Environment Education European Network (http://greeen-eu.net), by presenting her own perspective on the problem of the climate change (http://greeen-eu.net/award-3/). The successful application and realization of the inquiry-based teaching scenario from the platform of the European Project ?Inspiring Science Education? (http://www.inspiringscience.eu/) in March 2016 motivated her to take the initiative as a researcher and a young scientist to send us the message: ?Save our planet. There are alternative energy sources?. The ?European paths in the knowledge of sciences? opened the way for the participation of the student in the European conference in Kassel, Germany (10-12 October 2016) (http://greeen-eu.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/DRAFT_GREEEN_Final_conference_Kassel.pdf).
